3 & 4 Country Passes???

Hi, I am travelling with my two adult children, 18 and 20. Myself and one child is travelling from Zurich, Switzerland to Marseille, France; Marseille, France to Barcelona, Spain; Valencia, Spain to La Linea, Spain; La Linea, Spain to Seville, Spain; and Seville, Spain to Lisbon, Portugal. The other child is leaving us in Barcelona. Which passes would be best for us? All our travel will be happening in January 2017 and we are all Australian. Many thanks Jules

Hello Jules,

Thanks for the question.

It is best to purchase Renfe Spain Pass for your travel in Spain and point to point tickets for the remaining sectors.

To purchase Renfe Spain Pass click "Here".

You will have to retrieve your seat reservation at a local station before boarding a high speed train. The reservation is included in your Renfe Spain Pass. No surcharge applies!

You can purchase point to point tickets and travel as follows:

- Zurich to Marseille via Belfort – Montbéliard - TGV Lyria and TGV trains.

- Marseille to Barcelona - France-Spain High Speed train.

- Madrid to Lisbon - Trenhotel train.

You can travel from Seville to Madrid with your Renfe Spain Pass and purchase point to point ticket from Madrid to Lisbon.

In order to book tickets, please visit our website www.raileurope.com.au.

You would need to feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares. You need to select the fare which is preferable to you and then add it to Cart. Once added, you need to mention the names of the passengers to make the payment on the next page.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Thank you for your reply. I have had a look into the tickets you mentioned and added all up they are much more expensive than a rail pass. Why would a rail pass not work? Thanks Jules

Hello Jules,

Thanks for your reply.

A Pass is advised if you travel to more than 4 cities in a country. Hence it is advised to purchase Renfe Spain Pass for your travel in Spain and point to point ticket for the other sectors.

Please note that pass does have additional expenditure at times, as only Intercity trains run by national railways can be boarded with the pass. When it comes to high-speed trains, scenic trains, night trains and trains crossing the countries (borders), reservations are mandatory and these reservations coast extra (Over and above the pass fares as pass does not include any reservations).

As most of the trains are border crossing and high speed trains, you will require compulsory seat reservations with a Pass.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,
