Booking Rail travel for Italy and Switzerland

I will be arriving in Venice by midday on Saturday 2nd May 2015 and wish to go by train to Lake Como. Then on the 6th of May would like to catch the Bernina Express to Chur and on the following day the Glacier Express to Zermatt. On the 9th May trail from Zermat to Interaken, to a trip to Jungfrau on the 10th and then travel to Zurich on the 12th May 2015. What is the best way to ticket this and the cost travelling first class.

Hello Richard,

Thanks for your question.

As you are travelling extensively with in Switzerland, I suggest that you purchase a Swiss Pass.

However for your travel outside Switzerland, you would have to purchase point to point tickets.

With a Swiss Pass you can travel free within Switzerland on the STS (Swiss Travel System) network on trains, buses and boats. Also with a Swiss Pass you would get discounts on mountain excursions within Switzerland. This discounts can only be availed locally by showing your Swiss Pass to the ticketing office in Switzerland.

Passes can be purchased 6 months in advance, however reservations can be done 3 months in advance.

Reservations are mandatory on high-speed trains, night trains, scenic trains and border crossing trains.

With a Pass the seat reservations will be offered at discounted fares (Pass holder fares).

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "book a compulsory seat reservation when using your rail pass & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

You can also refer to our travel magazine Connexion for sample itineraries of Europe.

Hope this helps.
