Buy Rail Passes or Point to Point tickets?

There are 5 peoples travelling and my itinerary are as follows, should I buy the 5 days 2 countries (Italy and France) Rail Passes or point to point tickets:-

Rome to Florence - travel on 13th Dec

Florence to Venice - travel on 14th Dec

Venice to Milan - travel on 16th Dec

Milan to Lugano and return to Milan travel on 16th Dec

Milan to Paris (on night train) - travel on 16th Dec night and arrive next morning (17th) in Paris

Paris to Strasbourg - travel on 19th Dec

Paris to ...... (not sure which place yet) - travel on 20th Dec

Also how do I count as 1 day which the plan is to travel from Venice to Milan in the morning and Milan to Lugano and return and then catch the night train to Paris. So for this travel do we consider as 1 day or 2 days travel in the Rail passes.

Also which train do we have to make reservations earlier and how much is the reservation fees?

Thanks.

Catherine

Hello Catherine,

Thanks for the question.

You can purchase Eurail France - Italy Pass for your travel.

To purchase Eurail France - Italy Pass click “Here”.

As you will be traveling to Lugano, you can purchase point to point ticket for your travel.

You can travel from Milan to Como and Como to Milan with your Pass.

- Come to Lugano – Eurocities train.

- Lugano to Como - Eurocities train.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass.

In order to book tickets, please visit our website www.raileurope.com.au.

You would need to feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares. You need to select the fare which is preferable to you and then add it to Cart. Once added, you need to mention the names of the passengers to make the payment on the next page.

In order to book seat reservations, please follow the above procedure by clicking on “Seat Reservations” tab on the homepage of the website.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Hi Leora, thanks for the details. Could you let me know if I travel from Venice to Milan on 7 am train and overnight train from Milan to Paris. How many days travel do you consider this route as ie 1 day or 2 day on the Rail Pass.

Thanks

Hi Leora,

I have check on the seat reservation for the night train, why is the seat reservation fee for the 1st classs the same cost as the point to point ticket fare? Is the nigh train from Milan to Paris included in the Rail Pass?

I could see most of the booking fee is around AUD 17 for the day train.

Also is there a night train from Paris to Nice? What is the point to point ticket cost? and what is the cost of the seat reservation ?

Thanks.

Hello Catherine,

Thanks for your reply.

The booking for your night train travel from Milan to Paris is not open on the website yet as the booking horizon is 4 months prior your train departure date . Request you to try booking seat reservations in few days.

As Milan to Paris is boarder crossing, seat reservations are mandatory for this route.

There are no night trains for your travel from Paris to Nice. The booking horizon for this sector is 3 months prior your train departure date hence you can try booking seat reservations in September.

As fares are dynamic and subject to change, we unfortunately, cannot give fare quotations. All available fares are displayed on our website. It would be best if you check directly on our website.

In order to book seat reservations, please visit our website www.raileurope.com.au.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on “Seat Reservations” & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
