EURAIL WEBSITE DIFFERS ON SWISS (ONE COUNTRY) PASS INFO

i JUST browsed through the eurail website and it says there is NO ONE COUNTRY PASS for Switzerland. This is so confusing as your site states a SWISS TRAVEL PASS giving all travel benefits including free and discounted ferry trips etc. Please clarify this. Also, considering pass holders only get a maximum 25 per cent discount on most routes Europe-wide, the deal with pass purchase can be very expensive not to mention the THELLO train company of Italy is not even included in Eurail pass.

Also, what is the reservation fee for the Golden Pass ride in Switzerland as your site says it is free but reservation required. The word FREE and reservation required just don't mix and defies all logical and rational practicalities in my books.

Dear Latif,

Thank you for your question.

Please note that Swiss passes can be used on local transportation (Swiss travel system), where as a Eurail pass covering Switzerland does not cover the local transportation. Swiss pass allows children below 16 to travel free when accompanied with at-least one parent. The same is not applicable for Eurail pass covering Switzerland.

The Swiss Travel Pass offers multiple benefits - the most important being that you could travel on the entire public transportation within Switzerland with this pass free of cost except for the Scenic trains. You will get a discount on Scenic trains - Glacier express, Golden Pass line etc.

Hence reservation is advised to travel on Golden Pass Line train as this being a scenic train.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "seat reservation" & then feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Aamir, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
