Hello Carole,

Thanks for your question.

You would have to break your journey as follows:

- Belgrade to Sofia – Eurocites train (Can be booked only 3 months in advance)

Request you to try booking closer to departure date.

- Sofia to Istanbul – You would have to book locally

In order to book tickets, please visit our website http://www.raileurope.com.au/

You would need to feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares. You need to select the fare which is preferable to you and then Add it to Cart. Once added, you need to mention the names of the passengers to make the payment on the next page.

Thank for your help. What about Belgrade to Istanbul. Istanbul doesn't appear on the listings at all when I try looking up a current connection - to get some idea on when trains run and how long they take. It would be good to have some certainty of getting to Istanbul or be prepared to make other arrangements if it is not going to be possible. I have to link with a trip in Turkey in May.

One of the travel passes includes Turkey, so would that include Sofia to Istanbul? I was thinking of stopping off in Sofia as well as Belgrade, so it would be no trouble to buy a ticket to Istanbul from there, I guess. The trip I am planning starts in Italy -Rome to Venice to Trieste to Zagreb to Belgrade to Sofia to Istanbul stopping a few night in each place. I'm not sure if I should just buy individual tickets or a travel pass - either including Italy or Turkey???

Hello Carole,

Thanks for your revert.

You would have to travel as follows:

- Rome to Venice – Frecciargento / Italo / Intercity train (Can be booked 3 months in advance)

- Venice to Trieste – Frecciabianca / Intercity train (Can be booked 3 months in advance)

- Trieste to Ljubljana via Sezana – Regional trains. Cannot be booked on our website. You would have to book locally.

- Ljubljana to Zagreb – Eurocites train (Can be booked 2 months in advance)

- Zagreb to Belgrade - Eurocites train (Can be booked 2 months in advance)

- Belgrade to Sofia - Eurocites train (Can be booked 2 months in advance)

- Sofia to Istanbul - Cannot be booked on our website. You would have to book locally.

As you are travelling extensively, I suggest that you purchase a Eurail Global Pass.

With a Eurail Global Pass you can avail of unlimited travel on the national rail networks of the 24 European countries covered by the pass.

With this pass you can travel free on the regional and intercity trains.

Reservations are mandatory on high-speed trains, night trains, scenic trains and border crossing trains.

With a Pass the seat reservations will be offered at discounted fares (Pass holder fares).

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "book a compulsory seat reservation when using your rail pass"

You can also refer to our travel magazine Connexion for sample itineraries of Europe.

In order to book tickets, please visit our website http://www.raileurope.com.au/

Hope this helps.
