Global pass extras

We plan on visiting several cities in different countries. Leaving Paris on the 1st Jan, then to Brussels, then Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Padua, Florence then Rome on the 11 Jan.

I was told booking city to city would be easier but cost wise it isn't. There will be 2 adults and 1 youth travelling.

What would you recommend ?

What are the additional costs of booking and going over borders ?

Is there an extra cost for overnighter trains ?

Are there extra reservation costs involved once we have the Global Pass ?

Look forward to your reply.

Hello Sydney,

Thanks for your question.

As you are travelling extensively in Europe, I suggest that you purchase a Eurail Global Pass. (Flexible Pass)

With a Eurail Global Pass you can avail of unlimited travel on the national rail networks of the 24 European countries covered by the pass.

With Eurail Global Pass you can travel free on the regional trains.

Reservations are mandatory on high-speed trains, night trains, scenic trains and border crossing trains.

With a Pass the seat reservations will be offered at discounted fares (Pass holder fares).

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "book a compulsory seat reservation when using your rail pass & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Passes must be validated within 6 months of issuing date by a railway official in one of the countries mentioned on the rail pass (station’s desk) who also fills in the passport number.

Passes must be validated prior to boarding 1st train (All parties must be present when validating a Saver pass).

You can also refer to our travel magazine Connexion for sample itineraries.

In order to book tickets, please visit our website http://www.raileurope.com.au/

Hope this helps.
