My 21 year old son is travelling for 2 weeks in Italy, Switzerland, germany, Netherlands & France. What is the best rail pass to get?

My 21 year old son is a student & needs a pass for 2 weeks to travel in Europe from Italy to france through a number of countries. Is he better getting a pass or paying for individual tickets?

Hello Anthony,

Thanks for your question,

According to the countries your son would be traveling, i will suggest Eurail 3 Country Select Pass for Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Benelux with the validity period of 10 days in 2 months.

As per the travel in France he can purchase France Rail Pass.

However reservations are mandatary on all trains that travel internationally (from one country to another) , on all night trains, scenic trains, and high-speed trains.

This would be indeed best way to travel.

Hope this helps!!!

Hi,

I am travelling with my family to the above destinations (Netherlands, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy) for 5weeks. What is the best pass for this travel? Plus does the select pass give travel within the countries selected?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks.

Hello Kate,

Thanks for your question.

As you are traveling extensively I suggest you buy a Eurail Global Pass. Eurail Global pass will be helpful if you are covering more than 4 countries.

Passes can be purchase 6 months in advance.

With a Pass you can avail of unlimited travel on the national rail networks of the countries covered by your pass.

Reservations are mandatory on high-speed trains, night trains, scenic trains and border crossing trains.

With a Pass the seat reservations will be offered at discounted fares (Pass holder fares).

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "Seat Reservations“ & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!
