Pass or Tickets or combination - Frankfurt - Munich - Stuttgart - Kaiserslautern - Frankfurt

Im planning a train trip from Frankfurt to Rothenburg OD Tauber, Munich, Fussen, Munich, Stuttgart, Hornberg, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Pirmasens, Kaiserslautern, Frankfurt. Will a rail pass cover these trips or will I need a combination of pass and tickets? My travel will be over an 18 day period with my daughter 11 years old. Any advise you can offer is very much appreciated. We are non-German speaking and novice travellers.

Hello Conny,

Thanks for your question.

The German Pass would be ideal for your travel since you would be traveling extensively within Germany. The German Pass would give you extensive travel on the regional and national trains in Germany. Please be advised that reservations are mandatory on all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border crossing trains but with a Rail Pass you would avail passholder/discounted fares for the same.

Travel as follows for the given destinations:

- Frankfurt to Wuerzburg – ICE train.

- Wuerzburg to Rothenburg ob der Tauber via Steinach Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Other trains.

- Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Treuchtlingen via Steinach Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Other trains.

- Treuchtlingen to Munich – Regional train.

- Munich to Fussen – Regional train. (Return the same way)

- Munich to Stuttgart – ICE or Eurocities trains.

- Stuttgart to Karlsruhe – Regional or TGV France-Germany trains.

- Karlsruhe to Pirmasens – This leg you would have to book locally, there are bus and regional train services but you wouldn’t be able to book it from our website.

- Pirmasens to Kaiserslautern – This leg as well would have to be booked locally with bus and regional train services available.

- Kaiserslautern to Frankfurt via Mannheim – Regional and ICE trains. However there are direct ICE France-Germany train.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "Seat Reservations” tab on the homepage & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy

Hope this helps!!!
