Taking an alternate train

I am looking at travelling from Naples to Rome. There are frequent trains (around every half hour). If I purchase a ticket for a specific time, can I use the ticket to board an earlier or later train, e.g. if I arrive at the station early?

Hello Graeme,

Thanks for the question.

You can purchase point to point ticket for your travel as below:

- Naples to Rome - Frecciarossa train.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab which is below "Proceed to Shopping Cart" to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy. Request you to check the After Sales Policy if your ticket is Exchangeable.

In order to book tickets, please visit our website www.raileurope.com.au.

You would need to feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares. You need to select the fare which is preferable to you and then add it to Cart. Once added, you need to mention the names of the passengers to make the payment on the next page.

Hope this helps!!!

Thank you Leora for your reply.

I have gone through the process that you have helpfully provided. If I buy a "Best Fares" ticket, it tells me that a reservation is included with the ticket, and that it is non refundable and non exchangeable. This indicates to me that I could only take the specific train booked and I could not take an earlier or later train. Am I correct?

If I buy a "Flexible Fare" ticket, it tells me that a reservation is included with the ticket, and that it is 80% refundable up to 3 days before the train departure date, otherwise no refund is allowed. There is nothing to indicate the ticket is exchangeable. Again, this indicates to me that I could only take the specific train booked and I could not take an earlier or later train. Am I correct?

It appears to me that the best way of having flexibility about the train I take is to not purchase a ticket in advance (which would restrict me to a specific time), but to instead purchase a ticket when I arrive at the train station.

Many thanks

Hello Graeme,

Thanks for your reply.

Best fares are Non refundable, non exchangeable. Hence you will not be able to change the departure time and no refund will be provided as well.

The After Sales Policy for Flexible fares of your sector as you mentioned above is Refundable and Non exchangeable. Hence you will not be able to board the earlier or later train.

As you wish to have flexibility while traveling, you can purchase tickets locally from the train station subject to availability.

Hope this helps!!!
